Streaking Superliner

Every third day, I am aboard train 21Q destined for Chicago. If we have an average trip, we regularly meet Amtrak 30 in either Elkhart or South Bend.

On this fine evening, the DS has informed us that we will be held at CP 423 for a bit. He is single tracking due to a train in trouble in Mishawaka. After Amtrak passes by, the rail will bend and it should be our turn.

With time on my hands, I get off to stretch my legs. It is beautiful outside. The tree frogs are talking and a soft breeze is blowing. It's the ideal kind of night to be on my patio enjoying a glass of wine.

It would be criminal to not attempt a shot in such gorgeous weather. Not having a tripod presents a minor issue though. I have to brace myself against something. Anything. Problem is, I have nothing.

As 30 approached, slowing from 70mph to the posted 60mph, I held the camera as tight as possible and opened the shutter. Pulled by a single Genesis engine, the 4 Superliners streaked by.

Hence, Streaking Superliner!
