Flatworms are found in a wide range of aquatic habitats. Some types are very tolerant of low dissolved oxygen.

 

Pollution tolerance: Most Somewhat Tolerant; Some Facultative or Somewhat Sensitive

 

Indicator: High abundance of flatworms is associated with organic or nutrient pollution

 

Identification tips:

•Most 5-20 mm long but can be 1-30 mm

•Body elongated and flattened top to bottom

•No appendages or body segmentation

•Mouth opening on bottom surface, nearer to one end

•Two eye spots on top of head
