Common Marbled Carpet Dysstroma truncata

19/09/2022: 15W actinic trap; Llangennith, Gower, S Wales.

 

We’re having a week away on the Gower peninsula, somewhere neither of us had visited before, staying in a rental cottage with an extensive garden, so it would have seemed rude not to bring along a moth trap. We arrived on Saturday, but last night was the first with reasonably overcast conditions. While Large Ranunculus was new to me, I’m also including a few images of other species trapped in the garden here. At this time of year care has to be taken to distinguish between the Common Marbled Carpet and the closely-related Dark Marbled Carpet; this morning five turned up – all Common Marbleds, and all different in appearance – but only this one could be persuaded to sit for a photograph.
