Railroad Cut
Here on July 1, 1863, during the opening day of the three-day Battle of Gettysburg, Confederate forces under Brigadier General Joseph R. Davis took shelter in this unfinished railroad bed. Union forces spearheaded by the 6th Wisconsin and supported by the 84th and 95th New York regiments attacked from the south, resulting in the capture of as many as 200 Confederate soldiers at the spot seen in the foreground.
