Wearing a coat of paint that is literally hours old, New York, Susquehanna & Western F45 6370 leads an inspection trip west across the Ramapo River in Oakland, New Jersey. This is my first view of the big yellow and black EMD, which is also the first F45 to wear the paint of a railroad that was not in the western United States. In about ten miles, the dignitaries aboard the theater car are going to get their first view of a portion of a recently-revived portion of the Susquehanna main line that has been out of service since 1968. When they arrive at the one-time interchange with the Lehigh & Hudson River at Sparta Junction, they will inspect the Susquehanna’s newest acquisition, the former L&HR main from Sparta Junction to the New York state line. The first stack train operated over this route two months earlier, but this was the first inspection of the route.
