Charging Through Lebanon

A westbound Conrail hopper train rolls across the 10th Street grade crossing in Lebanon, PA. If there was a reason that there was a caboose immediately behind that power, I don’t recall it. I was quite surprised when I looked at Google Earth and found that the tracks and the lead GP40 are about the only things in this photo that still exist. The GP40 was rebuilt and still serves NJ Transit, but the buildings, electrical infrastructure, and even the grade crossing are gone, as 10th Street now crosses over the Lebanon Valley line on a bridge.
