Allentown Intermodal Yard

This is probably the least technically proficient photo that I will ever post, but it shows a little-photographed operation that I only caught once. Prior to Conrail’s construction of the Bethlehem Intermodal yard in the mid-1980’s, the local piggyback ramp was in Allentown’s Linden Street yard, near the site of the Lehigh Valley passenger station. Here a Conrail SW8 switches the small facility in 1982. Today this location is the headquarters of R.J. Corman’s modest operation in Allentown.
