Need a lift?

Just a little over six months into Conrail, a Penn Central SD40 and an Erie-Lackawanna U33C lead an eastbound train out of the Allentown Yard. The engineer, whose name was George Zellers, invited me up into the cab. Learning that I had walked over from South Bethlehem, where I was attending college, he offered me a ride back. He explained that he could not stop the train to let me off, and gave me a quick tutorial on how to dismount a moving locomotive. As we passes the former Union Station in Bethlehem, he slowed down, and I tested my newly learned skill.
