Hydrangea macrophylla
Known in Brazil by the name of "Hortênsia", is a shrub-like phanerogama belonging to the genus Hydrangea, native to Japan and China, but currently cultivated as an ornamental plant in all temperate and subtropical regions. The species, of which there are multiple cultivars, presents pink or blue flowers depending on the pH of the soil: in acid soils the flowers are blue, while in alkaline soils they are pink.The hydrangea is rich in active principles, including the glycoside cyanogenic hydrangea, which makes them poisonous.
