Smooth-Coated Otter
A smooth-coated otter feasts on its catch along the Kallang River. Singapore's waterways are stocked with fishes which have provided otters here with a plentiful supply of food.
The otters are considered a species that is vulnerable to extinction worldwide, but have made a splash in Singapore with their adaptation to an urban environment. Otter researchers would previously have to track the notoriously shy species in the dark, but the presence of social otters in Singapore represents a world's first which have opened up opportunities for researchers here to further study the species. With its status as the top predator in the wetlands alongside the crocodile, any conservation efforts for otters would also protect any animals further down the food chain.
