Hucks Prop Starter

Instead of having a bloke swinging on the prop to start the engine of the older type of aircraft we see here the Hucks Prop Starter . To save the bloke losing a hand or his head this device was produced by Bentfield Hucks during World War One . As the plane engine engaged the Hucks Starter would disengage and be taken away ready for the plane to taxi off . Seen here at the Fly Navy Event at Old Warden Airfield home of The Shuttleworth Collection of which this Hucks starter is part of .
