Lugo is city founded in the first century BC by Paulo Fabio Máximo, legion commander during the reign of Emperor Augustus. Its aim was to strengthen the Roman rule in the northern part of the Iberian Peninsula. Significant monument are the walls from Roman times, the best preserved in Spain over the entire length.
