Back to photostream

After pausing railway photography for 12 years, I started again in 2002 just right at the same point where it ended. I started photographing steam again, which was quite easy as I had two daily steam operated narrow gauge lines only 20 km away from the place where I lived. I also attended some special steam rides on regular gauge, but I really missed the atmosphere of scheduled operations.

The photo was taken at Gera depot, during a special steam train ride. In background 50 3648 can be seen while taking coal and water. I think this was the important moment, when I made the mindshift to focus on scheduled operations (diesel and electric) from now on. Nevertheless I still enjoy steam trains and never stopped to photograph them, but they were not longer my photographic focus.

Scanned slide.
