Die Idee für die beleuchteten Masten entstand vor vier Jahren. Ein Businessplan für Svelvik sollte erstellt werden, und Architekt Fredrik Haukeland schlug vor, die Masten zu beleuchten. Rote und grüne Lichter sollten die Masten mit der maritimen Geschichte Svelviks verbinden.

- Selbst wenn das übertrieben ist, kann man sie wohl als die spektakulärsten Wahrzeichen der Welt bezeichnen, sagt Morkestrand.
Rund 10.000 Menschen leben in und um Svelvik. Die Beleuchtung wird für die Anwohner, den Schiffsverkehr und aus der Luft sichtbar sein.

Das Projekt entstand in einem Joint Venture lokaler Akteure, wobei Statnett ein Drittel beisteuerte.
- Es war ein besonderer Moment, die beiden Masten beleuchtet zu sehen. Wir halten es für eine innovative Initiative, die sowohl Svelvik als auch das Stromnetz in den Mittelpunkt rückt. Die rot-grünen Masten unterstreichen sowohl die Bedeutung der Schifffahrt für die Gemeinde Svelvik als auch die Bedeutung der Stromversorgung für die soziale Entwicklung Norwegens, sagt Romsaas.
Er ist der Ansicht, dass die Masten wie Skulpturen wirken.
– Der rot-grüne Mast werde als Tor auf dem Weg nach Drammen wahrgenommen, sagt er.

The idea for the illuminated masts was conceived four years ago. A business plan was to be prepared for Svelvik, and architect Fredrik Haukeland proposed lighting the masts. Red and green lights were to link the masts to Svelvik's maritime history.
Project manager Knut Morkestrand believes the masts can be compared to the Eiffel Tower.
- If that's an exaggeration, they can probably be said to be the world's most spectacular landmarks, says Morkestrand.
Around 10,000 people live in and around Svelvik. The lighting will be visible to people living in the area, to boat traffic and from the air.

The project has been created through a joint venture between local contributors, with Statnett contributing one third.
- It was a special moment to see the two masts illuminated. We think it is an innovative initiative that highlights both Svelvik and the power system. The red and green masts emphasize both the importance of shipping for the Svelvik community and the importance of the power supply for social development in Norway, says Romsaas.
He believes the masts appear as sculptures.
– The red and green mast is experienced as a portal on the way into Drammen, he says.
