Visualising microbes
As part of this activity the students make a laser powered microscope using a low powered laser pointer and a syringe. They they examine the content of a variety of water samples collected locally. The water droplet acts to magnify the shadow cast by any microbes within a sample allowing the visualisation of bacteria, fungi and parasites.
