Expectations vs Reality
“You won’t be disappointed if you don’t have expectations”. I’m sure a lot of us have heard or read this somewhere. I have a perfect story to resonate with this.
I was to travel to Sao Paulo, Brazil on work a few months ago and my excitement knew no bounds. I was traveling alone, and after a lot of thought(and safety concerns), I decided to go to Rio for the weekend. My brazilian friend gave me a list of things to see and do, and also mentioned it would be springtime, so the weather would be beautiful (his exact words - not too hot, so it will be perfect). Bags packed for sun, sand and glory, I was all set for a perfect weekend by the copacabana beach.
When I landed in Rio, I was greeted by some crazy cumulonimbus clouds, in simpler terms - storm clouds. I saw a ray of hope when the forecast said mild clouds the next day and set off on a day tour to see the famous Christ the Redeemer statue and experience the breathtaking views from atop the Corcovado mountain. This is what I saw when I got there, a faint figure of the Jesus statue almost hidden by the clouds and 0 visibility (so 0 views). The rain literally washed away all my expectations of that perfect sunny weekend in Rio :(
