Terror on the Streets of London: Part 5
12:30 The Streets of London
Approaching the church, the soldiers appeared to be cowering in fear rather than ducking behind cover. As they neared the doors of the church, a soldier stopped them. Scorch held up his taskforce ID and simply stated “We’ll take it from here.” The soldier sighed with relief and Ampere heard him mutter under his breath, “Better you than me...”
The church was eerily quiet. The bodies of 2 soldiers greeted them. Moving around the corpses, they continued out of the foyer and up the aisle. At first, it looked like a few civilians were sat in the pews, heads down in prayer, but on closer inspection, Ampere and Scorch could make out blood dripping from their faces. There was no sign of struggle, whatever happened to them, happened before they even reacted.
Scorch held up his hand and Ampere stopped, he pointed toward the altar. Just before the Altar, a small blonde haired girl knelt in prayer. “Looks like our perp.” Said Scorch. Amperes suit started to hum and the faint crackle of electricity could be heard. Scorch waved his hand, “Do NOT engage.” Ampere gritted her teeth but powered down her suit.
A deep gravely voice seemed to fill the church. “tHaT wAS A WisE cHoICe, aTtACKINg mE wOUld hAVe reSUltEd iN YOUr qUiCK DeMiSE..... I sEE ThE maSTeR oF FAlcoNs cONtiNuES tO sEND hiS pAwnS aND rEMAIns ThE cOwArd hE ALWayS wAS.”
“...Master of Falcons?” Queried Scorch in a low voice. He looked at Ampere who shrugged.
“iF yOu WOulD bE SO kIND tO DeLIVer a MEsSage To HiM.....”
“A message? What message would that be?” Asked Scorch.
“hE hAS SomEThiNG I WaNT. DEliVEr iT TO mE aND i WiLl sPARe tHiS soRRy exCUse oF a uNIVerSe.”
As the girl spoke, the Falcons earpieces crackled into life. Mainframes voice came over loud and clear. “You are cleared to engage Falcons, I repeat, you are cleared to engage.”
“Finally...” muttered Ampere. Her suit started to hum as she prepared to unleash her power, Scorch held up his hand again and stopped her. She shot him a look that could kill. She was about to start complaining when the voice filled the church again.
“ANotHEr wISE chOICe. DeLIvER tHe MEsSAge, aND yOu WiLL bOTh lIVe thIS DaY.”
Scorch continued to bargain with the girl. “The problem is, we can’t leave you here killing innocents. To deliver the message, we’d need you to stop this mindless violence.”
“miNDlESs ViOlENce is NoT mY foRTe, tHAt iS wHY i cHoOSE tO BrINg tHe BEaR.”
Scorch continued to work for a peaceful resolution, as he’d been trained to. “If we promise to deliver your message, will you and the bear get out of here. A lot more people will be hurt if we have to stop you”
“I wILl gO wIThoUT trACE. THe bEAr is nO lONgER My CoNCerN. I SImplY PuT hIM whERE I NeEdED hIM. BUt MaKE nO mIsTAKe, yOUr PaTHeTiC pOWeR cOUlD NoT sTOp Me anYWAy.”
Ampere was loosing patience. “Well how ‘bout we find out!”
“bE MY GuESt, BUt iT hAD bETter KiLL mE bEcaUSE yOU WiLL nOT lIKe tHE cONsEQueNCes.”
Amperes suit hummed once more, Scorch held up his hand to stop her, but she ignored him this time. She started to glow so much it hurt Scorch’s eyes, a bright flash of liquid electricity shot from her entire body and struck the girl, destroying most of the surrounding church.
“What have you done?!?!?” Yelled Scorch.
As the dust started to settle, Ampere and Scorch could make out the girl, she was now standing and facing them. Once the dust had settled enough, they could make out her face, or rather, her lack of a face. She had no features at all, just a mouth, filled with long needle like teeth.
Without a word, the girl started to glow. She glowed so bright it hurt Amperes eyes, then from her body, she shot Amperes liquid electricity bolt straight back at her. It hit Amperes suit and dispersed around her destroying the other end of the church.
As the dust settled once more, Ampere appeared, unscathed. “Ha! Electricity can’t hurt me, I’m the master of Electricity!”
“ThAT waS nOT fOR yOu. CAn YouR fIEry fRiENd wiTHstAnD tHe PoWEr? BwA HaAA hAaA HAAA.....”
Ampere recoiled. She looked over to where Scorch had been, but he wasn’t there. She turned back to the girl, but she was gone. The voice continued to laugh as it faded away.
“BwAa HaAA hAAa HaAaa.....”
“SCORCH!” Yelled Ampere. “SCORCH!” She started to panic. The ruins of the church were alight with flames and smoke was starting to block her vision. She searched frantically. Her throat started to burn as she inhaled the smoke that surrounded her. The roof of the church started to collapse and she had no choice but to head for the door. As she reached the foyer she tripped over something in her path, she looked down to see Scorch who laid where he landed after the blast. Panicking, she dragged the prone Scorch out of the church reaching outside as the church toppled in a cloud of flames and smoke.
Outside, the soldiers ran to help her with Scorch, carrying him to the blockade they had formed on the street. Placing him down gently, an army medic checked for a pulse. He turned to Ampere “It doesn’t look good.” He started administering CPR. Ampere just looked on in disbelief. “She’s in shock” said the medic. “Help her into cover.”
Ampere snapped out of it. She waved off the soldiers trying to help her and tapped her earpiece. “Man Down! I repeat, Man Down! We need a med-evac now!! Do you read me.”
Mainframes voice answered “Roger that Ampere. Med-evac on route. What happened?” Ampere froze. Mainframes voice came again. “Ampere? What happened.” Ampere lifted her hand to her earpiece to respond, she hesitated, then removed the earpiece. She fell onto her knees next to Scorch as the medic continued CPR, and began to cry.
