Western Road WWI Memorial Trees - Anay Rayner #gtos17
This official 'natural' War Memorial - an avenue of dedicated trees in Western Road Crookes Sheffield - was planted in 1919 in memory of the former puplis of Westways Primary school who were killed in WWI.
The avenue is amazingly beautiful at all times of the year but especially in summer when it provides many of its natural benefits to the local community.
Sixty memorial trees remain of the 96 originally planted.
Engraved into a memorial plaque on the front wall of the school are the words “planted in grateful appreciation of the part taken by former pupils of this school in the Great War 1914–1919”.
