First page of the "The Space between" mixed media book

This page is made from Lutradur, which has been painted with Koh-in Noor paint and metallic acrylics, and then burnt with a heat gun.

I then machine stitched on top which is not for the faint hearted, especially as I used some difficult rayon thread which didn't react well to the rough painted surface.

At one stage this piece went missing and after turning the studio upside down and even moving furniture, I eventually found it clinging to the back of my knitted cardigan. A soothing cup of tea was needed at this stage.

Stitching across large spaces using a sewing machine is great fun as long as you are prepared for the inevitable snarly bit.

After stitching, I enlarged some of the holes, using a soldering iron, and then overpainted with Lumiere and Interferrence Paint.

I designed this page to go behind the stained glass front page, and to enhance some of the colours.
