Slovakian inspired waistcoat (close up)
I made this piece out of chiffon, which I machine and hand stitched. The patterns came from pieces I had seen in Slovak museums, especially the museum in Bardejov Kupele.
I was also inspired by modern patterns from local newspapers and magazines and the Rusin lettering which I studied in Svidnik.
After stitching, I burned the piece with a soldering iron, and then used a heat gun to remove large parts of the base fabric.
The end result was a deconstructed garment, which paid tribute to some of the disintegrating costumes I saw on display
