Devil's Door
First, I apologize to those of you who visited a moment ago. I posted the wrong film because I'm blind and couldn't see the cover picture. I only saw its black and white nature and guessed wrong. This is the film I meant to post today. Sorry for that. (I make these films especially because I'm blind, and they become my world for a few days while and after I make them.)
I made this film a few weeks ago, and I wasn't originally going to share it on Flickr because I thought it was the wrong type of film for my friends here. But I think that was a mistake because this is the same as nearly all my poems and films. When I write a poem and turn it into a film, I try hard to make something I can play on loop for hours a day, even when I'm sleeping. The poem and film becomes me for a while and opens the way to the next poem and film once it plays its course.
When I made this, I was in a dark place, afraid for my future and more, trying to reshape how I saw the world.
I thought about making an uplifting film, but only this angry film spoke to me, so I went with that approach. And for me it worked. I listened to this film hundreds of times across days, even while I slept, and it shaped my dreams, or my dreams shaped it, or both.
I no longer need this poem, but it's still part of me like the past is part of us. If you're curious, the following are its words:
Do you miss
Those you once
Hated
Now they're gone
Did you ever
Love
A story
When it's wrong
Will you visit me
when I've died
Will you visit
Before
Will the Devil
Throw a party
When I knock
On his door
I've never known
The color
Of your eyes
Without light
The only Truth
Which counts
Is what gets you
Through the night
