My doorbell is dead

The phone never rings

I have nowhere to go

Except in my dreams

As we were long ago

Before our love

Faded to shadows

 

An endless series

Of lonely days

And quiet nights

In a ghostly haze

 

I close my eyes

But never sleep

Nothing waits

Anywhere for me

When first we met
