No Comfort

I have a serious question to my friends here. As you know, Flickr says they're going to start deleting all the moderate and restricted posts on free members, which for me is most of my work. As many of you know, I haven't had a job since 2015 and am on a very limited fixed income.

If Flickr only charged $132.99 to keep all my work forever, it would be a no brainer. I'd figure out a way to afford it. But they don't promise that. They say if we pay $132.99 they'll hold it for two years, and then if we don't pay again they'll delete it at that point.

That doesn't sound remotely appealing to me. Even if it was $30 to hold it for two years, that they'll keep coming back asking for more money on pre-existing files is disturbing especially since they can change the prices at a later date.

So I researched as much as I could to see if Flickr Pro offers anything the current free accounts don't get.

The only thing I can find is that Flickr Pro allows films to be ten minutes long instead of three minutes long.

Over the years I've come to enjoy trying to compress stories into three minutes. There are few if any situations in which I think I can do more in ten minutes than I could in three.

However, maybe I'm wrong. Maybe it would be worth a $132.99 investment just to see if I can do anything with slightly longer films?

That's the only thing I can think of that Flickr Pro offers, and even that would only be a two year rental rather than an actual purchase of file space.

I would welcome any thoughts on the subject as I'm trying to figure out whether I should allow all my work to be deleted next week or if I should try my hand at a new form of art, the longer films.

Either way, thank you so much for the visits :)
