Persepolis Adaptation (Copic multiliners, IB English Literature, 25/1/2016)
As a requirement of my IB Literature course, we needed to create reinterpretations of a certain novel. As I greatly admired Persepolis, I created adaptations, experimenting with new styles, learning new ways to compose my panels. My Persepolis adaptation came to explore Satrapi’s traumatic encounter with the Guardians of the Revolution, exploring her identity and connections to Western culture, and religion. This is conveyed in panel 5; Satrapi developed a fascination for metal music, hence I included a song by Iron maiden, Children of the Damned, capturing Satrapi's traumatic childhood in Iran.
