Canada’s deadliest rockslide occurred in Frank, Alberta, in 1903. It killed over 70 people and buried a portion of the town under approximately 44 million cubic metres (110 million metric tonnes) of rock.
Turtle Mountain has several fractures and is still unstable. It is currently monitored with state-of-the-art equipment, which provides data from a network of more than 80 geotechnical sensors.
