Rabbi Noach's Home
This house belongs to the Rabbi of my (Jonathan Encavey) synagogue. it is the only Sephardi synogogue in Melbourne and has very few surviving members. Sephardi Jews are the non-persecuted Jews what I mean is they are not from Europe so most of them have not gone through the horrors of a concentration camp like most of my Ashkenazi Jewish friends. I think there is less participation in synagogue from its Sephardi members because most Ashkenazi Jews decide to not live in Israel because they do not wish to be in a state of war for the rest of their lives however the Sephardis are less fearful of this they didn't go through the war so they do not have the same reservations when dealing with the current Intifada in Israel. This house shows the state a Sephardi Rabbi lives in Australia, not a great one mainly because the richest Jews are Ashkenazi. This Rabbi if in Israel would be living a much more comfortable life. But he feels its his mission to maintian our traditions in Australia and for this reason he lives in a similar living space to me. This photo was taken on a stormy evening, the pidgeons did not move despite the flood-worthy rain.
