Elani Halstead: "Learning the Traditions," Alang-Gluban Village – Nantou County
This photo was taken when we visited the Seediq tribe, an indigenous tribe in Taiwan, and learned how they have grown, adapted, and struggled through the changing times. While we were there, some of the village elders taught us how to make clothes and fabrics the way they traditionally made them. In the picture, one elder tribe member is teaching Baylee Nace (student) how to strip reeds in a way that creates threads. It was an honor to be able to take part in, and learn, something that is still so meaningful to the Seediq people, even after thousands of years.
