Title: Chefchaouen from the Hilltop

Location: Chefchaouen, Morocco

Description of Photo:

On the outskirts of Chefchaouen was a dirt path that led from the narrow, blue pathways of the city, across a waterfall, and into the Rif mountains. I specifically remember a man with a pet ostrich asking for money in exchange for a photo and goat farmers taking their herd up into the rocky mountains ahead. The trail climbed steadily upwards for about a mile. It had been raining, so the trail was muddy and possibly less attractive to other tourists this particular day. At the top of the hill was a solitary white monastery, barely visible from the depths of the town itself. From this perspective, the town of Chefchaouen was like a blue blanket covering the edge of the Rif Mountains. The mountains stood tall and formidable, posited as the guardian of the town.
