Chinese incense burner, Mount Morgan Cemetery.

The HEUNG LEW (Incense Burner or Chinese Prayer Oven) was built by the Mount Morgan Chinese community in the 1890s as an incense burner and to make offerings for the dead. The custom was for mourners to burn incense, prayer papers and cash papers in the Heung Lew to ensure the departed a safe journey to their ancestors. It is one of a few such burners still remaining in Australia. It is one of the reminders of Mount Morgan’s former large Chinese community.
