The René-Le-Bas Army Hospital
The René-Le-Bas Army Hospital , known locally as the Cherbourg Maritime Hospital , is a former Naval hospital located in Cherbourg-en-Cotentin . Created on the orders of Emperor Napoleon III in 1858, it was completed in 1871 . It closed its doors in 2002.
On November 9, 1982, the hospital was christened "René-Le-Bas", the name of the first military doctor to join the French Free Naval Forces .
