Exploring Bark Textures

Yesterday I came across a Kanye West interview in CULTURE magazine from 2014/2015 and it really inspired me to look into his work; my perception of him totally changed. Watching more interviews of his today and exposing myself to his innovative work, I was really inspired by his artistry, and had a sudden urge to create. I stuck masking tape to my wall and, listening to his song 'Lost In The World' on repeat, I let myself be as expressive as I could with the materials I had at the time. I soon found that rubbing white oil pastel over the paint and graphite created a really cool, bark-like texture, due to the textures of the wall beneath. I edited one of the pictures I took, and really like this grunge effect that I achieved; I find it gives the image a lot more depth. I'm really excited at the fact that I found inspiration from, in my mind, such an unlikely source. I will definitely be drawing inspiration and artistic drive from West's creative passion again in the future.
