Vaughan Lodge Fonds (MG 16)
The Vaughan Lodge of the Masonic Order was formed in 1854 in Nobleville (later renamed Maple), receiving its charter in 1856. James Woods was the first Worshipful Master and initially, membership required a 5-pound sterling initiation fee, along with annual dues of one shilling, 3 pence. During these early years, a considerable portion of the Vaughan Lodge membership originated from the hamlet of Patterson, a company town specializing in the manufacture of agricultural equipment 2 km east of Maple. In 1866, the two-story Masonic Hall on Major Mackenzie Drive was built as a permanent site for the Lodge.
