Cecil Roy Fleming, born in 1892 at Elder’s Mills, was the second son of Thomas and Mary Fleming. He enlisted in 1916 with the 2nd Battalion Divisional Cyclists, 69th Overseas Battery in Toronto. Fleming travelled from Halifax to England in 1917 and was in England until being transferred to the 4th Brigade, Canadian Field Artillery in France. He returned to Canada in 1919 and joined the Toronto Transit Commission in 1921. Fleming was employed with them for fifteen years before he died as the result of a work accident in 1936. He is buried at Knox Cemetery in Elder’s Mills.
