John H. Thompson pilot with the Royal Canadian Air Force 245 Squadron in WWII, ca. 1944

Thompson was one of the most experienced pilots in his squadron, having flown 100 missions during his tour of duty, which ended in March of 1945. Earning mention in dispatches, Thompson was also awarded the Canadian Volunteer Service Medal and Clasp, and Operational Wings. Later in life, he also received the French Legion of Honour Medal for his participation in the D-Day liberation of Europe.
