Elsie Bentley and Jack Johnson were married in 1919 in England. Jack served in both World Wars: first as a sergeant with the Northumberland Fusiliers in England and later as a sergeant-major with the Veteran’s Guard, stationed at Mimico. Prior to 1939, he was employed by the Langstaff Jail Farm, near Thornhill, and lived nearby. He later became deputy governor of the Toronto jail and retired in 1958. Johnson died in 1978.
