“Vaughan Twp. Relief Costs Show Decrease,” The Liberal, 1936

By 1936, Vaughan, along with the rest of the nation, was over the worst of the Great Depression. This led to a decline in public grants and less spending on relief works, though there were still several projects in need of workers. As the depression progressed, citizens also began to contest the amount of road work given to those on relief.
