H.S. Howland, 1859-60, 1864-1867

Henry Stark Howland was born in New York in 1824. He moved to Upper Canada in 1840, and by 1852 had acquired a grist mill, sawmill, and general store in Kleinburg. In 1864, Henry sold his store and moved to Toronto, becoming one of the co-founders of the Canadian Bank of Commerce and founder of the Imperial Bank of Canada in 1874. He had nine children and died in 1902.
