Township of Vaughan By-law 1308, 1931

By-law 1308 authorized an agreement between the Province of Ontario and Vaughan Township to allow for the borrowing of money for the purposes of relief efforts. Through the Unemployment Relief Act of 1930, the federal government also sought to help with municipal relief efforts by providing twenty million dollars in subsidies, thereby covering about 25% of the cost of most relief projects. As the Depression continued, the Township came to rely more and more on grants such as these.
