“Vaughan Township Council Held Inaugural Meeting,” The Liberal, 1935

The previous year’s, one of the worst of the Depression, high costs of relief work led to further discussion on the topic. Council discussed appointing a volunteer relief board and the cash relief program, where workers were paid 25 cents an hour for their efforts and given work a certain number of days each week.
