“Citizens’ Liberty League,” The Liberal, Sept. 11, 1919

Just as there were organizations promoting the Temperance movement, there were other organizations that opposed it. One such group was the Citizens’ Liberty League, which viewed prohibition as infringing on the rights of citizens. They argued that the Ontario Temperance Act did not represent the sentiments of the population and thus it should be repealed in favour of selling alcohol through government agencies.
