Captain Addison Alexander Mackenzie served in France during the First World War with fellow officers from Woodbridge.
Pictured here with Addison Alexander are his “family in arms” – Lieutenant Buston, who later died of his wounds, and Lieutenant Muirhead.
Though soldiers were the only ones physically fighting, other family members also played a central role in the war effort, supporting troops by performing auxiliary military roles, farming and participating in charitable efforts at home.
