A black and white photograph of seven men from Maple who attended a meeting of the Maple Knit-Wit Club, 1945.

This group of servicemen included (from left to right): Howard Chapman, Earl MacNaughton, Jack Chapman, Oscar Wilson, Frank Robson, Alan Moore and Jack Rumble.

Howard and Jack Chapman were descendants of Nathan Chapman, who emigrated from Pennsylvania to Vaughan on horseback.

When Nathan Sr. died, his sixteen-year-old son Nathan Jr. received the Crown Grant for Lot 28, Concession 1(near present day Yonge and Centre Streets).

In 1950, this farm was the last of the local Crown grants to pass from family ownership, soon after Howard and Jack Chapman returned from the war.
