John Morgan received the Distinguished Conduct Medal. He was a student at Newmarket Collegiate before enlisting in 1914 at 19 years old.

John’s younger brother Ed Morgan followed him overseas. John first served with the Governor General’s Body Guard, went overseas with the Fort Garry Horse in February 1915, and battled at Valenciennes, France.

In the Second World War, a peacetime exemption was put into place, called the Sole Survivor Policy, for families like the Morgan’s who lost multiple members.
