Donald Mackenzie (1852-1945) grew up in Woodbridge on Lot 5, Concession 7 (present day Pine Valley Drive and Highway 7). He was a farmer, merchant and civil servant. Donald also operated a butcher shop and general store in Woodbridge and worked as a liquor license inspector for the West Riding of York. Donald sat on the Village council from 1884 to 1892.

Donald Mackenzie was married to Lydia Ann Addison (1855-1939) and had five children together. Some are pictured here with their spouses: Anne (1877-1969), William (1879-1880), Florence (1883-1968), Addison Alexander (1885- 1970) and Donald Ross (1887-1918). Addison Alexander and Donald Ross both enlisted and served in the First World War.
