Jacob Snider
In 1800, the Snider family emigrated from Pennsylvania to Upper Canada. Jacob was born during the journey and lived near Maple in 1821 and then in 1830 moved to Lot 18, Concession 5 (southwest corner of Rutherford Road and Jane Street). He was a doctor and much sought after as competent medical care was hard to find in the area. He was also a tax collector and assessor for Vaughan Township for many years. Jacob’s son, John, later donated the land for the Township Hall at Vellore.
