S-4a Rowland Burr, 1837

Rowland Burr

Rowland Burr arrived in Vaughan in 1837. He owned a flour mill, sawmill, and textile mill, businesses which originally formed a settlement called Burwick, but was later renamed to Woodbridge. By the 1840s, the mills had grown into the most successful businesses in the area. He later sold them to William Gamble and moved to Weston in 1846 and then Toronto in 1851.
