Thomas and William Cook
Thomas and William Cook arrived from England in the 1830s. William became a lawyer in Toronto, while Thomas acted as proprietor of Carr Mills. In 1838, Thomas built a new sawmill on Lot 16, Concession 2, (running from Dufferin to Bathurst Street, north of Rutherford Road) and this business, along with a nearby grist mill made up the village. Thomas also constructed a small store on Lot 17, Concession 2 in 1844 which served as a store and post office for Carrville. Thomas and William both had three sons each and are credited as the founders of Carrville.
