Will of James McMurchy, 1886 MG 9

James McMurchy

James McMurchy was born in 1801 in Scotland. In 1836, he tried to purchase the clergy reserve located on Concession 7, Lot 34 (running from Kipling Avenue to Pine Valley Drive, south of King-Vaughan Road), but did not get the deed until 1841, paying 87 pounds and 10 shillings. James was married twice: first to Agnist (Agnes) McDougal in 1830, who passed away in 1841, and secondly to Mary McMillian in 1843. He had 6 children with his first wife Agnes and 14 with his second wife Mary. James was apparently a strict and domineering father and pushed his children to become educated, with a number becoming doctors. He passed away in 1886.
