Balsor Munshaw

Balsor Munshaw (Balser or Balthasar Munschauer) was born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania in 1760 and arrived in Richmond Hill with his wife Katharine and their 5 children in 1794, benefitting from Governor Simcoe’s offer of land. The Munshaws’ eventually bought Lot 34, Concession 1 (the southwest corner of Yonge Street and Highway 7) and Balsor built the very first school on Yonge Street in 1795 (known as Langstaff School). He died in Richmond Hill in 1831.
