Bowes Family Tree
Anthony Bowes
Anthony Bowes (1789-1870), his wife, Ellen Oman, and their children came to Vaughan Township in 1831 from Yorkshire, England. They landed in Quebec and from there traveled to York, by way of Montreal and Durham. The Bowes family settled on Lot 3, Concession 2 (present day Dufferin to Bathurst streets and south of Centre Street) and bought Lot 7, Concession 2 as well, which was north of Centre Street. After Ellen passed away in 1843, Anthony remarried to Martha Maxwell in 1859. By his two wives, Anthony had at least seven children and died in 1870 at the age of 81.
